About The Puuma Project

The Puuma Project was born out of necessity, love, and relentless advocacy.

Founded by Alexandra Puumala, a mom of four, disability advocate, and neuroaffirming specialist. The Puuma Project blends personal experience with professional insight to help build a more inclusive world for all kinds of minds and bodies.

Whether you’re an educator seeking training, a family navigating the system, or a community organization wanting to do better, you belong here.

We offer compassionate consulting, powerful advocacy, and engaging workshops with one goal in mind:

To ensure no one feels left behind.

What we stand for

Access Over Accommodation – We believe in systems change, not just quick fixes.

Neuroaffirming Care – Respecting and celebrating neurological diversity, not pathologizing it.

Family-Rooted Advocacy – Support should come from a place of understanding and lived truth.

Nothing About Us Without Us – We centre the voices of disabled individuals and their families in every step.

“There is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more.”

— Robert M. Hensel

“As a mom of three, with my youngest diagnosed with Autism, navigating the school and medical system has been overwhelming, especially with my own ADHD. Last year, after a serious incident where my son eloped from school, we had a meeting with staff to address his safety and support needs. Ali joined us by phone and advocated powerfully on his behalf. She asked the hard questions, held the school accountable, and highlighted where his rights and needs were not being met. Her knowledge, strength, and compassion made all the difference. I am deeply grateful for Ali and the incredible work she does for children with special needs and their families.” - Kayla Primeau
